Our approach to teaching and learning is grounded in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that differentiates learning to meet students’ academic and wellbeing needs. At NYA, we guide our students to use design thinking processes that will prepare them to be change makers in their emerging world.
With this in mind, we have designed an integrated learning platform we call the Change Maker model. This is intentionally constructed to develop higher-order thinking skills such as creating, analyzing, and problem solving. Students engage in dynamic and diverse learning experiences that challenge them to answer real-world problems, think critically, and adapt to change. Through inquiry, collaboration, and hands-on projects, our student develop their creativity, resilience, and the ability to lead with insight and empathy. Technology, including the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence, enhances learning by personalizing experiences and deepens understanding while building essential digital literacy.
Early Years Centre
The Pre-School (6 months – 5 years)
Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to nurture the balanced development of both the left and right sides of the brain. Through Montessori-based, reality-driven and hands-on learning experiences, children strengthen left-brain skills such as logic, concentration, sequencing, problem-solving, and early numeracy and literacy. At the same time, Reggio Emilia–inspired, child-led and inquiry-based approaches encourage right-brain development by fostering creativity, imagination, emotional expression, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. By integrating structure with creativity, the curriculum supports holistic brain development, helping children grow into confident, curious, and well-rounded learners.
Assessment in preschool is continuous, child-centered, and observation-based rather than test-driven. In Montessori, teachers assess learning by closely observing children’s engagement with materials and recording skill development through notes, checklists, and work samples, with a focus on independence and individual progress. In the Reggio Emilia approach, assessment is carried out through rich documentation such as photographs, videos, conversations, and project work—to understand children’s thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Together, both approaches emphasize the learning process, individual growth, and holistic development rather than grades or comparison.
Elementary School
The Secondary School (6 – 10 years)
The Elementary School program offers a vibrant and stimulating learning environment where students from Grades 1 to 5 develop essential academic skills and grow as compassionate, curious global citizens.
Our interdisciplinary approach organizes learning into inquiry-driven units that encourage students to explore concepts deeply and make meaningful connections across subject areas. Through project-based learning, collaborative activities, and critical thinking challenges, children develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. The curriculum integrates core subjects such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, IT & Robotics, Visual and Performing Arts, Music, Modern Languages, and Physical and Health Education.
Social and emotional development is a priority at NYA. Our teachers create a supportive classroom culture where students learn to communicate effectively, work cooperatively, and demonstrate empathy and respect for diverse perspectives. Personalized instruction ensures that each child’s unique talents, interests, and learning styles are nurtured within a positive, inclusive community.
Our technology program includes, 1:1 learning with devices for students from kindergarten through Grade 2, and laptops for Grades 3 and above. NYA students use a wide variety of technological tools to communicate, collaborate, research, and create. Learning is supported through Makerspace where the students make models using design thinking and a variety of tools.
Our elementary assessment practices are designed to celebrate growth, not just grades. Teachers use a balanced mix of ongoing formative checks, student self-reflection, and end-of-unit tasks to understand how each child learns and what support they need next. Assessments are closely aligned with learning goals and AERO standards, and feedback is shared in child-friendly language so students know their strengths and next steps. Families receive clear, comprehensive reports that highlight academic progress, skills, and learner attributes rather than only test scores.
The Curriculum
The AERO (American Education Reaches Out) standards are designed to align American curriculum and instruction abroad with U.S. education expectations, making it easier for students to transition internationally while maintaining high academic quality. AERO standards follow the U.S. Common Core and other national standards frameworks and are structured by grade level and subject strands.
