CURRICULUM

At New York Academy, we prepare students to be globally competent citizens. Therefore, our responsibility is to not just teach them to memorize facts and figures, but to think deeply, ask questions, and care for their friends, family and world. Our students do learn important facts in Language Arts, Math, Science, Visual Arts, Physical and Health Education (PHE) and more but they also learn how to apply their learning.

The way in which we engage students in learning is as important as what we teach. Our pedagogy emphasizes inquiry- and project-based instruction and learning. We organize our curriculum into transdisciplinary units of study that integrate multiple subject areas, thereby enriching the learning experience for our students. Through project-based learning, children actively investigate their interests, discover new ideas and develop their own theories. In keeping with our mission and values, teachers encourage and support each child’s unique style of learning, interests and talents.

Our experienced facilitators actively listen and mentor the students as much as they facilitate and inspire creativity, thinking, questioning, and self-reflection. Our individualized and personalized program helps our facilitators to  understand each student’s talents, interests, learning styles and how they form community with one another. This emphasis creates positive connections among peers and with adults creating a supportive learning environment for all.
