Events

At New York Academy, we enjoy celebrating holidays and festivals from India and around the world. We also love to take the chance to come together as a community to celebrate our successes, share what we have learned, and enjoy the company of our friends and families. Here is a sample of the many occasions we enjoy celebrating together each year.

NYA Assemblies

At NYA we hold whole school assemblies on a monthly basis to bring our community together to celebrate our students and community events. Assemblies are a chance for our students to work on their presentation skills in a fun and celebratory environment and we invite parents to come watch and celebrate with us. Topics might include our core values, topics we are studying in class such as plants and French, or holidays

Halloween Party

To celebrate Halloween, we invite parents and students to The Kid Centre to show off their costumes. Everyone enjoys a spooky evening with amazing costumes, games and activities for kids of all ages.

Thanksgiving Feast

Eat, drink and be thankful! To celebrate Thanksgiving, NYA families participate in a school potluck. Students from all over the world learn about the Thanksgiving holiday and experience tasting many traditional Thanksgiving foods. Our students discuss what they are thankful for and learn about the history behind this American holiday.

Winter Show

NYA students celebrate the winter holidays by gathering together with friends and families for musical performances. Each class at NYA learns and performs winter songs for parents at RNR auditorium. The performances include drama, music and dance and we love this chance to see them perform!

Republic Day

To celebrate Republic Day, our teachers plan lessons and crafts to teach students about India. Even our youngest students in the Mother/Toddler program dress in orange, green and white and make their own Indian flags. First and second grade student also lead us in an assembly dedicated to this important Indian holiday.

Spirit Week

Spirit Week helps us to recharge, re-energize and refocus for the remaining few months of the school year. During this week, students, teachers and staff members come to school dressed in the specific theme of the day. We have enjoyed showing our school spirit and unique personalities with crazy hair day, pajama day, mismatch day, and favorite character day.

End Of Year Show & Celebration 2018

Our End of the Year Celebration is a big affair with friends and family at RNR auditorium. In 2018, Dr.Mohan Babu graced the event by his presence. Each class performs different musical numbers, including songs that show off our growing mastery of French and Spanish. Other performances include drama, music, and dance. It is a great way to come together and celebrate another fantastic year of learning and fun at NYA!

Independence Day 2018

Independence Day is celebrated at NYA by gathering for a fun and patriotic whole-school assembly. Teachers also plan patriotic activities in classrooms such as Indian flag crafts and face painting. All of our students and teachers come dressed in tricolors from the Indian flag. Our Indian and international students come together to share and learn about the country we all call home.

STEAM Night 2018

NYA students invite parents to visit and take the lead in demonstrating hands-on experiments that have been working on. The focus of these experiments is on demonstrating the knowledge and application of the scientific process. S.T.E.A.M education is an interdisciplinary and cohesive approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math as access points for guiding students’ inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Sports Day 2018

NYA holds an annual Sports Day to show off the students increasing physical skills. It begins with a march by students past their families and onlookers. The NYA community then stands for the National Anthems of India and the USA.  Kids participated in different sports activities with enthusiasm and show off their skills.

Mother’s Day & Spelling Bee 2018

Students at NYA love the chance to prepare something special for their mothers and caregivers. The mothers enjoy a day of delicious breakfast and Spelling Bee activities. The students along with their mothers have a splendid time participating in the activities the teachers have planned for them.

Father’s Day 2018

We celebrate Father’s Day with a twist by organizing a Math Olympiad to engage in fun and educational activities where we can show off to our dads. Children enjoy solving math problems and activities with their fathers that have been planned by their teachers. The event is followed by a wholesome breakfast with tasty delicacies.
